How do I unassociate Nero to stop opening with everything?

My Nero trial expired and yet everything I try to open tries to open with it, but lo and behold it can’t, because Nero has expired. I uninstalled it, yet it still does that! How do I unassociate any files to open with Nero, and instead let it give me a choice, or associate opening files with some other program?
I heard you have to go to the properties of the file but what do you do at the properties ?

Right-click on the file you want to open, click on Properties, you’ll see opens with click on the change button, choose the program you want, click Apply OK.
